Singer and composer Bappi Lahiri died following multiple health issues on Wednesday, February 16, 2022. He was 69 at the time of this demise. The doctor treating Lahiri revealed that the singer was having several health issues. He popularized disco music in India back in the 80s and 90s. He was also called the pioneer of disco in Bollywood. Lahiri died at Juhu, Mumbai’s Criticare Hospital today. For the unversed, he was hospitalized for almost a month due to a lung infection. It was caused by obstructive sleep apnea. He was also admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital last year after having tested positive for COVID-19.
How Bappi Lahiri died
While talking to PTI, Dr. Deepak Namjoshi, director of the hospital, said, “Lahiri had been admitted to the hospital for a month and was discharged on Monday. But his health deteriorated on Tuesday and his family called for a doctor to visit their home. He was brought to the hospital. He had multiple health issues. He died due to OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) shortly before midnight.”
Bappi Lahiri delivered famous songs in numerous films. That was the time of the late 1970s-80s. Some of his most popular songs were ‘Disco Dancer,’ ‘Chalte Chalte,’ and ‘Sharaabi.’ His last-ever Bollywood song was for the movie Baaghi 3. It was titled ‘Bhankas.’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has paid tribute to the legendary singer through Twitter. He is what he wrote, “Shri Bappi Lahiri Ji’s music was all encompassing, beautifully expressing diverse emotions. People across generations could relate to his works. His lively nature will be missed by everyone. Saddened by his demise. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti.”
Celebs pay tribute to the singer
Numerous celebs from Bollywood have paid tribute to Bappi Lahiri through social media. Actress Kajol wrote on Twitter, “Today we lost the disco king, Bappi Da you were not only an amazing music composer and singer but also a beautiful and happy soul. End of an Era. May your soul rest in peace.” On the other hand, Raveena Tandon wrote, “Grew up listening your music , Bappi da, you had your own style and always a smiling face. Your music shall play on forever .. Om Shanti, Shanti, Shanti.” Anupam Kher, Vishal Dadlani, AR Rahman, Ajay Devgn, and Akshay Kumar are among others who paid tribute to the late singer.
Bappi Lahiri’s achievements outside Bollywood
Bappi Lahiri’s achievements were not only limited to Bollywood. He earlier collaborated with popular international sensations like Lady Gaga and Akon. Mega-budget franchises like Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy also bought the rights to his music. For the unversed, Lahiri composed music for the Disney animated film Moana. He was the one who made the international audience groove to the beats of football fever.
Bappi Da’s last on-screen appearance
The legendary singer last appeared in the reality show Bigg Boss 15 hosted by Salman Khan. He went there to promote the new single of his grandson Swastik. It was titled ‘Baccha Party.’
