Several studies have suggested that even light drinking can be harmful to health. The Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) has researched the same. The researchers had some shocking conclusions that they have revealed to the world. A journal named Clinical Nutrition has concluded that people who drink less than the recommended amount of alcohol in the US still face the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Cerebrovascular and heart diseases are top the charts in this case.

Research on Light Drinking

The ARU researchers examined hospitalizations most of which were concerning cardiovascular diseases among 350,000 UK residents. All the individuals selected were aged between 40 to 69 years. The sample that was taken consisted of 333,359 people who drank alcohol. The researchers inquired about the overall weekly alcohol intake of all the participants. They further enquired about the intake of specific types of alcohol like wine, beer, and spirits. The median of the aforementioned participants was followed for approximately seven years to date. Almost all the incidents of the participants were captured where they were hospitalized because of a series of cardiovascular events.

Light Drinking Effects

The participants who had earlier suffered a cardiovascular event were excluded from the said research. The same applied to those who were among the former drinkers. The research found that even those individuals who were used to light drinking alcohol faced the risk of suffering a cardiovascular event. This applied to all those individuals who drank less than 14 units of alcohol per week. For the unversed, it is the limit recommended by the chief medical officers of the UK.

Main Effects of Alcohol Consumption

The authors of the research also talked about a wrong analysis related to alcohol. That is about the wide acceptance that the habit of light drinking can prove beneficial for cardiovascular health. These biases were found in epidemiological evidence. That mostly applied to the group of non-drinkers in the group. So, this study has proved once again that even light drinking can be harmful to health.

So, the first priority of all staunch drinkers is to quit this habit and not even resort to light drinking.
