The much-talked-about Johnny Depp vs Amber heard trial has finally reached a conclusion with the former winning the case. The defamation trial began in April this year and finally concluded this Wednesday, June 1, 2022. It was a six-week-long trial that consisted of multiple surprising moments as both Depp and Heard made shocking allegations against each other. It was Johnny Depp who originally filed the case against Amber Heard and sued her for a whopping USD 50 million for 2018 op-ed published in The Washington Post.

The publicly discussed case was fought at the Fairfax County Circuit Courthouse situated in Fairfax from April until the final verdict that was announced on June 1, 2022. Amber Heard had filed a counterclaim against her ex-husband’s former lawyer for calling her abuse claims a hoax or fake. According to the announced verdict, Johnny Depp won the defamation trial against his ex-wife and was awarded USD 15 million and USD 10 million in compensatory damage including USD 5 million in punitive damages. However, Amber Heard was also awarded USD 2 million in compensatory damage because the jury sided with her counterclaim.

Earlier, Johnny Depp lost a UK libel case against a tabloid that called him a wife-beater. He also refused to appeal against the High Court ruling back in 2021. Amber Heard finally spoke about the defamation trial in early May and stated that she allegedly suffered at the hands of her ex-husband. While recalling the first violent incident that took place between them, the Aquaman actress said that he allegedly slapped her for the first time. The testimony was spread across two days during which Amber also said that he allegedly did a cavity search on her and accused him of penetrating her with a liquid bottle.
